Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Dimitar Radev took part in a working meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union Member States on Tuesday, where they discussed Bulgaria’s potential accession to the euro area for the first time, the BNB press service said.
The meeting was held in Sofia at the invitation of Hungary’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Miklos Boros, as part of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The main topics of discussion included the current state and prospects of the Bulgarian economy and finances and preparations for Bulgaria's entry into the currency union.
During the meeting, the BNB Governor stressed the need for political, institutional, and fiscal consolidation as a key element of the country's current agenda.
This was the first meeting of its kind, the BNB press service said.
