Caretaker Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Ivanov said during a meeting with employers' and employees' organizations here on Wednesday that proposed changes to the Labour Code related to the transposition of the Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages in the EU are to be debated in the interdepartmental working group established in his Ministry. Ivanov, quoted by his Ministry's press service, said that effort should be made to introduce the most correct and fair solution from a social and economic point of view.
The working group will discuss for the first time specific proposals for amendments to the Labour Code on Thursday. Ivanov said that the proposals to amend the Labour Code concern the introduction of criteria for determining the minimum wage, which are identical to those spelled out in the Directive as mandatory. They propose to introduce the setting of a reference value for assessing the adequacy of the minimum wage and an obligation to assess it at a certain period. Changes are also envisaged to encourage collective bargaining in the process of determining the minimum wage.
