Ryanair will base its fourth aircraft at Sofia Airport and will start flying to five new destinations this summer season, Jesus Caballero, CEO of Sof Connect, concessionaire of Sofia Airport, and Alicia Wojcik-Golebiowska, Ryanair's Central and Eastern Europe manager, told a briefing.

The five new routes will be Valencia, Alicante, Bristol, Copenhagen and Skiathos, bringing the total number of destinations to 40.

With this plane, the carrier invested EUR 100 million in Bulgaria, while this will lead to an increase of 350,000 passengers per year at the airline's destinations to and from Sofia Airport, Alicia Wojcik-Golebiowska said.

According to her, the increase in passenger traffic will be 23% compared to the previous year, which will have a socio-economic aspect and will lead to job creation.

Currently the company operates at four airports in Bulgaria – Sofia, Varna, Burgas and Plovdiv, and annually transports over three million passengers.

This is great news for our airport, for Bulgaria and especially for Bulgarian passengers, said Jesus Caballero. According to him, the decision of the airline to increase the aircraft at its base is a validation of the potential of Sofia Airport.
