A photo exhibition by Valery Poshtarov will be presented at Sofia’s Credo Bonum Gallery between January 16 and February 14, the organizers said.

Titled Father and Son, the project presents "a series of double portraits that evoke a sense of unsettling intimacy and a hard-to-explain discomfort, prompting us to ask questions," the organizers added.

"As a father of two growing boys, I have come to realize how quickly the day will arrive when they will no longer need me to hold their hands on the way to school. Inspired by this thought, I initially set out to photograph my 95-year-old grandfather and my father holding hands. The project soon evolved into something much larger than I had anticipated," Poshtarov said.

Spanning diverse cultures and reaching corners of 11 countries, Father and Son highlights the singularity of identity shaped by family, religion, customs, and gender norms, he added.

Poshtarov was born in Dobrich (Northeast Bulgaria) in 1986. He graduated from Varna’s National School of Arts and studied plastic arts at the Sorbonne in Paris. His photobook titled The Last Man Standing in the Rhodope Mountains is featured in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, MEP Paris, and the Museum of Photography in Berlin, among others. His Father and Son project has won six international awards, including the Sony World Photography Professional Awards, LensCulture Portrait Awards and Cortona On The Move Award.
