A high-tech greenhouse for cultivating cannabis plants was discovered in Sofia during a police operation targeting drug-related crimes, the Interior Ministry said in a press release on Saturday.

The operation followed information that a 32-year-old man with several prior drug-related offenses had rented a house in a Sofia neighbourhood and equipped it as a greenhouse. It was revealed that the man regularly visited the property during night-time hours to care for the cannabis plants, which preliminary reports estimate to be around 400.

The investigation to establish all facts and circumstances surrounding the case is ongoing.

Inspections were conducted at two additional properties in Sofia used by the 32-year-old, who has been detained for up to 24 hours.
