site.btaTotal Producer Price Index in Industry Declines in March Y/Y
In March 2024, the Total Producer Price Index in Industry, which can be used as an early measure of the current inflation process, declined on a monthly basis by 1.6% and by 8.7%, year-on-year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported on Tuesday.
Compared to February 2024, lower prices were registered in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 8.2%. An increase was observed in the mining and quarrying industry - by 6.3%, and in the manufacturing industry - by 0.1%.
Year-on-year, there was a considerable decrease in prices in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 31.2%, and in the manufacturing industry - by 0.4%, while the mining and quarrying industry marked a rise of 3.4%.
In manufacturing, prices of computer, electronic and optical products went up by 8.6%, prices of basic metals - by 3.1%, and prices of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers - by 1.4%.
A decrease was registered in manufacture of tobacco products - by 1.5%, manufacture of wood and products of wood and cork (except furniture), manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials, as well as in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products - both by 0.9%.
In manufacturing, the most significant drop in prices was reported in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (8.1%), in manufacture of paper and paper products – (7.9%), and in manufacture of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (7.7%). Considerable increase was registered in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (13.7%), in manufacture of rubber and plastic products (10.4%).
