The revenues from overnight stays in Bulgaria amounted to BGN 454.5 million in July, up by 17.6% from the same month of 2022. July was the third consecutive month in which revenues exceeded the pre-pandemic level of 2019, show data released by the National Statitstical Institute on Tuesday. In July 2019, the revenues stood at BGN 345.8 million.

In July 2023, an increase was observed in revenues generated by both foreigners and Bulgarians, by 19.5% and 13.2%, respectively.

In July 2023, there were 3,697 accommodation establishments functioning in Bulgaria, each with at least ten beds. The occupancy rate was 55.8%, up by 2.4 percentage points from July 2022. It was the highest in four- and five-star hotels (71.4%), followed by three-star accommodations (49.4%) and one- and two-star hotels (36%).

Compared to July 2022, the number of guests went up by 9% to 1,441,300. An increase was registered in both foreign and Bulgarian guests, by 13% and 4.8% respectively. A total of 675,000 Bulgarians spent the night, with an average of 3.2 overnight stays. Foreign guests numbered 766,300, with 4.8 overnight stays on average, and 72.3 of them stayed at four- and five-star hotels.
