Economy Minister Bogdan Bogdanov said that a new industrial zone will be constructed in Stara Zagora during his visit to the city on Wednesday. “We are currently developing such a project and the National Company Industrial Zones will be the operator," he underlined.

The main project for the development of the zone is expected to be ready by the end of 2023. The procedures for expropriation, construction of infrastructure, etc. will be launched after that.

Bogdanov did not name the exact place where the construction will take place but explained that the chosen site is managed by the State Consolidation Company, as is the site of the former airport near Stara Zagora. The local administration has been pushing to preserve and modernize the runway for a long time.

He indicated that he met with key priority investors. "These are major industries that will literally change the face of not only the region but Bulgaria," the Economy explained and added that the development of Stara Zagora and the region will be a priority in the coming years because new jobs must be created.

"Most likely, some of the people who work in the mining sector and in the Maritsa basin will have to be retrained. We want to create new businesses with new opportunities. These should be companies that offer a greater number of jobs and enable all these people to secure both their jobs and development locally," Bogdanov pointed out.

He attended the opening of a new plant in Stara Zagora for the production of high-tech, essential automotive components. The plant is an investment of the Dutch company Nedschroef amounting over BGN 50 million, as it ranks among the largest investments in the automotive sector in the region and is expected to employ some 300 people.
