In May 2023, seasonally adjusted industrial production in Bulgaria grew month on month for the first time since November 2022, increasing by 1.6%, the Statistical Office of the European Commission (Eurostat) said on Thursday.

Industrial production in the EU grew by 0.1% in May 2023 compared with April 2023. In the euro area, it rose by 0.2%. The data show a considerable slowdown after a 0.6% month-on-month increase in the EU in April 2023 and a 1% increase in the euro area.

Year on year, calendar adjusted industrial production in Bulgaria decreased by 11% in May 2023, which was the third-worst result in the EU. In the whole bloc, industrial production in May 2023 went down by 1.8% compared with May 2022, and in the euro area it dropped by 2.2%.
