Two exhibitions inspired by the history of the Bulgarian alphabet and one of its creators, Saint Methodius, will be arranged at the National Library to celebrate 1140 years since his passing. The opening ceremony is on April 4 at the “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library, the organizers said Tuesday.
The exhibitions are under the patronage of Vice President Iliana Iotova.
A manuscript and an old printed book from the collections of the Library will be presented, which are related to the memory of the enlightener and his reverence among the Slavic peoples, the organizers said. The documents on St. Methodius are originals from the Library's collection.
The exhibition "Alphabet and History" by Prof. Vasya Velinova presents the role of the alphabet in the cultural history of the Slavic peoples, and of writing as the basis of the historical memory of humanity, the State Institute for Culture under the Foreign Ministry said. The exhibition is a joint project of the State Institute for Culture, the Centre for Slavic and Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Duychev", and the Elena and Ivan Duychevi Foundation.
