Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov on Tuesday met with Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil at the Sofia Metropolitanate. The sides discussed prospects for cooperation between the Ministry and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the press centre of the Agriculture Ministry said.
Minister Tahov briefed the Patriarch on an upcoming scheme for the preservation of spiritual and cultural life of the population in rural areas under the Strategic Plan for Agricultural and Rural Development 2023-2027. Under it, buildings of religious significance will be restored and renovated. "The ministry is developing application guidelines, which will be discussed at the end of April, after which a public consultation will be held," he said.
Tahov said that the application procedure is expected to start in early May 2025 and will last at least 60 days. "The budget is EUR 72.5 million. Among the eligible activities are the restoration, renovation, repair or reconstruction of buildings, improvement of adjacent spaces, as well as the purchase of equipment," Tahov said.
At the invitation of Minister Tahov, Patriarch Daniil accepted an invitation to officiate a service during the opening of the 100th anniversary of "Forest Week". The celebration will take place on April 7, 2025, at 11 am outside St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
