site.btaForeign Policy Debate Is Not About Civilizational Choice, Regardless of How It Is Framed, Says TISP Floor Leader Yordanov

According to There Is Such a People (TISP) Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov, a debate on foreign policy is not about a civilizational choice, regardless of how it is framed, because the eurozone is not a civilizational choice. "A civilizational choice is to be part of the European Union (EU)," he stressed during the parliamentary debate on the no-confidence motion against the Zhelyazkov cabinet on Wednesday.
"Vazrazhdane talk about foreign interference in our foreign policy, yet in Bulgaria, both now and under the previous government – thanks to TISP – the attempt at foreign interference was stopped," Yordanov noted.
According to him, Vazrazhdane’s stance on foreign policy and the European Union is "political schizophrenia", as they have both read a declaration in Parliament advocating Bulgaria's exit from the EU and at the same time participated in European elections, secured seats in the European Parliament, and even attacked the EU’s representation in Bulgaria. "These are rather noisy, infantile, and disoriented people when it comes to foreign policy," Yordanov described Vazrazhdane.
"As for the reformatting of the global order – I do not think any rational person believes that we can ensure our national security outside of NATO," he added. According to him, Bulgaria should spend more on defence, pay its NATO contributions, and ensure that the EU is strong enough to defend itself if necessary – because, at the moment, it is not.
"Statements suggesting that we can secure our national security outside of NATO are simply dumb," Yordanov remarked. The TISP Floor Leader thanked the parliamentary group of Democracy, Rights and Freedoms for making a responsible decision on Tuesday "to largely put an end to the nonsense being discussed in this regard".
Yordanov also criticized members of the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria coalition, stating that they boldly claim they will initiate a no-confidence motion against the government after the eurozone report is released, "when in fact, that is when the real work begins – preparing for the adoption of the euro". "They are sabotaging their own statements," Yordanov concluded.
