An exhibition on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of painter Emil Stoychev will be arranged in the Academy Gallery in Sofia. The exhibition is entitled "From the Atelier" and presents previously unseen paintings by the artist from the last five years. It can be viewed from March 13 to April 6, organizers from the National Academy of Arts said Tuesday.

Emil Stoychev says of the art that "the artist speaks through colour and image". This maxim fully corresponds with his typical style characterized by magical realism.

Born in Sofia on 26 June 1935, Emil Stoychev worked as a stage artist at the Music Theatre in Sofia. He has been actively involved in artistic life in Bulgaria since the 1960s, and in 1991 he went to Paris, where he presented a solo exhibition at the Chateau de Bagatelle at the invitation of Jacques Chirac, then mayor of the French capital. In 1995, he presented a large-scale exhibition at the art gallery in Dobrich. He realized dozens of solo exhibitions in Bulgaria, France, Japan, USA, Germany, etc. His paintings are owned by renowned galleries, public and private collections in Europe, America and Asia.
