A new postage stamp dedicated to the Chinese Year of the Wood Snake was validated at an official ceremony on Tuesday. The event at the Central Post Office in Sofia was attended by Bulgarian Posts CEO Tsvetilia Stoilkova, Union of Bulgarian Philatelists Chair Spas Panchev, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bulgaria Dai Qingli.
A postal-philatelic edition is a postage stamp with a face value of BGN 1, in a circulation of 3,600 pieces. The artist of the project is Yana Aneva - Pavlova.
“Through the postage stamp we are pleased to celebrate the Chinese New Year - Year of the Wood Snake,” said Stoilkova.
Chinese Ambassador Dai Qingli expressed his joy at the good cooperation with the Union of Bulgarian Philatelists. He thanked the artist of the stamp, who skillfully combined images of the snake, which symbolizes the cooperation between the two peoples, and the arrival of the Chinese New Year. He expressed hope that this year the relations between China and Bulgaria will strengthen and the friendship between the two peoples will deepen.
The Chinese New Year is the biggest and most important holiday in China, which at the end of 2024 was also included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. The Year of the Wood Snake is important for the Chinese, as it comes around only every 60 years, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bulgaria pointed out.
