site.bta Deputy PM Zafirov: Government Will Likely Run Full 4-Year Term
Deputy Prime Minister and Chair of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Atanas Zafirov, said in an interview for Bulgaria ON AIR on Saturday night that the current government is stable, supported by a clear parliamentary majority and has the capacity to fulfil a complete 4-year term.
Zafirov said that the Cabinet's goal to have Bulgaria join the eurozone by the end of the year requires political stability, sustainability and consistency.
The Deputy Prime Minister described the motion of no confidence against the Cabinet as politically unjustified and lacking in substance. "The very nature of the vote was absurd in its essence. Two months of active work of this government, a difficult geopolitical environment. Asking for a no-confidence vote on foreign policy is purely a waste of valuable parliamentary time," Zafirov said. He noted that the opposition had offered no real alternative to the current foreign policy.
In the context of regional instability, Zafirov stressed that stable governance in Bulgaria is especially necessary: "Virtually all countries around us are going through upheavals domestically, which once again evokes the need for stable governance in this country."
Zafirov also made an appeal to the National Assembly to live up to its institutional responsibility. According to him, the stability of the government has already been proved, and the executive is implementing its priorities with consistency and specific results.
