The wide-scale inspection, carried out by the competent police structures of the National Police General Directorate and the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior, will continue next week to cover the overall picture - where, what and how many are the risky road routes in Bulgaria, as well as to what extent the identified so far dangerous sections are secured and in compliance with the issued instructions of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry said in a press release on Sunday.

The aim of the measures taken is to seriously improve road safety, as also stated in the government's priority programme, the Ministry said.

In 2024, more than 13,500 alerts were sent to road owners, and in the first two months of 2025, there were more than 2,000. The Ministry of Interior is sending alert letters and photos to road owners.

More than 22,000 cars, 3,200 trucks, more than 280 trailer trucks, dozens of motorcyclists and bus drivers were checked for violations in the period April 3-5, 2025 alone, according to data not yet entered into the systems.

More than 10,300 tickets have been issued and more than 1,800 administrative offences have been detected.

On Saturday Interior Minister Daniel Mitov ordered a comprehensive inspection of the condition of dangerous sections of the road network throughout the country. Next week, Mitov is expected to present a report to Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov with proposals for comprehensive measures.
