The Road Infrastructure Agency issued a travel advisory on Sunday urging drivers to who are due to travel on Sunday and in the coming days to hit the road in winter-ready vehicles. Weather forecasters predict worsening weather, rain and snow showers, and high winds.

Snow is falling at the Petrohan Pass on Sunday morning. The route is treated by snow clearing machines.

The regional road administrations are ready to take the necessary actions to treat the road surfaces in high mountain areas and passes, which are at higher risk of slipperiness and icing, especially early in the morning. Priority is given to motorways, the busiest sections on the first- and second-class road network, and passes providing connections between North and South Bulgaria, the Agency said.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, the southern parts of the country will see increased rainfall on Sunday. As the weather gets colder in the afternoon and overnight, rainfall will turn to snowfall in the higher parts of Western Bulgaria, in the Pre-Balkan Mountains, and the Ludogorie region.
