Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov Burgas University is hosting a three-day international scientific conference on the project AlgaeRevive: Harnessing Algae Power for Eutrophication Reduction and Blue Growth. It will run from December 16 to 18 under the auspices of Rector Hristo Bozov, the university said on Monday.
Representatives of universities, scientific organizations and institutions from five countries - Bulgaria, Greece, Ukraine, Romania and Georgia - are participating in the conference with their scientific papers.
Partners in the project are the Via Pontica Foundation, Tstone Mirtskhulava Water Management Institute (Georgia), Odesa State Agrarian University (Ukraine), Hellenic Agricultural Organization (Greece) and Ovidius University of Constanta (Romania).
The aim of AlgaeRevive is to create a sustainable ecosystem for algae research and innovation in the Black Sea region. The project focuses on using algae to reduce marine pollution and exploring their applications in industry.
The project is expected to result in the establishment of an algae hub (Algae K-Hub) as a platform to share knowledge and foster cooperation between stakeholders in the Black Sea region. The development of the AlgaeSense monitoring tool is also planned in the form of an AI-powered system for real-time monitoring and forecasting of algal blooms, supporting early detection and pollution mitigation.
