A scientific conference in Warsaw marked the 65th season of archaeological research at Novae, the Roman legionary camp near the town of Svishtov on the Danube. The event took place at the end of November and was organized by the Bulgarian Embassy in Poland, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Cultural Institute and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.
The forum was held under the auspices of Bulgaria's Culture Ministry, said Petya Andreeva from the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. She heads the Bulgarian-Polish archaeological expedition researching Novae.
"This was a recognition for us that the site is extremely important and a priority," Andreeva said, adding that the teams presented a summary of the results since 1959, when Bulgaria and Poland signed an agreement on joint excavations.
The latest findings will be shown to the general public, so that tourists have the opportunity to get a closer look at everyday life in Novae through the ages.
