site.btaEurobarometer: Bulgarians See Free Movement as Top EU Benefit, Trust in Eurozone Rises
Approximately two-thirds of Bulgarians believe that free movement is the main positive outcome of EU membership, according to data from the autumn edition of the Standard Eurobarometer survey presented Monday by the European Commission.
Support for this core EU principle is also evident in the broad approval of free movement among other EU citizens, who can live, work, study, and conduct business anywhere (Bulgaria – 85%; EU – 84%).
Traditionally, trust in the EU is higher in Bulgaria compared to the European average. The percentage of Bulgarians who have a positive view of the EU is significantly higher than the EU average (Bulgaria – 52%; EU – 44%).
Support for the eurozone has grown significantly among Bulgarians since the spring of 2024. Trust in the euro in Bulgaria has climbed by 9 points to 46%, despite the historically divided public opinion. Approval of the common currency among citizens of other EU countries has also risen, now reaching 74%.
The main issues identified by respondents at the national level include inflation (46%), the economy (28%), and the international situation (18%).
