The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF)-New Beginning strongly opposes the Council of Ministers' decision to cut funding for in vitro procedures by about BGN 2 million, MRF-New Beginning’s press service said here on Monday.

These funds are being redirected to the Ministry of Agriculture to aid farmers under Decree No. 407 of the Council of Ministers.

"This decision is unacceptable," MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski said in a statement. "We believe that the caretaker Prime Minister and the caretaker Finance Minister were misinformed. With complete information, they would not have permitted such a harmful decision for the state and its citizens, which jeopardizes the future for the sake of short-term sustenance," Peevski added.

"We insist that the necessary resources for farmers be provided without disadvantaging any other sector, especially such a sensitive and important policy for the future as providing resources for assisted reproduction. This is crucial against the backdrop of an aging population and the demographic crisis, which we are all responsible for overcoming," he concluded.
