site.btaPolice Busts Criminal Group Involved in Kidnapping Businessman
The Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime (DGCOC) has busted a criminal group that kidnapped a businessman. The kidnapped man was held captive for several days, during which time he was forced to transfer his company. After the group achieved its goal, the man was released, the Interior Ministry said here on Monday.
Police officers have begun work on a pre-trial proceeding for racketeering. The planned specialised police operation was carried out in the cities of Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv and Vratsa, during the course of which eight properties were searched. Mobile phones, devices for scanning and detecting radio frequencies and documents relevant to the investigation were seized.
Six men have been detained. All identified members of the criminal group have been charged with various crimes - kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, threatening to kill, bodily harm and extortion.
The police actions were carried out under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
