The Popovo History Museum will present a medieval double-edged iron sword during an exhibition on Bulgarian armaments from the 6th to the 17th century, which will open on December 9 in Sofia, Museum Director Vladimir Ivanov told BTA on Tuesday.
According to experts, the sword was made in the German city of Solingen, Ivanov pointed out. It is marked with a mint seal, which is double-sided and clearly shows the image of a she-wolf. The weapon is quite heavy and has unique characteristics.
The sword was donated to the Popovo History Museum in the late 1950s after having been discovered during the demolition of a private barn. It is part of the museum's permanent exhibition of the 14th and 15th centuries.
The exhibition in Sofia will be organized by the National Archaeological Institute with a Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Science.
