Hundreds of children and adults have regained their hearing after cochlear implant procedures at the Military Medical Academy, the institution said on Tuesday.
The first such operation in the otolaryngology clinic at the medical facility took place 20 years ago.
“We are a leading centre for treating hearing impairments,” said Professor Ventsislav Tsvetkov, head of the otolaryngology clinic, noting 375 successful operations and announced the centre will hold an official celebration on April 27.
Hundreds of patients, both young and old, are regaining their hearing after cochlear implant procedures at the Military Medical Academy, the Military Medical Academy said Tuesday. The first such intervention at the clinic for ear, nose, and throat diseases was performed 20 years ago.
For children born with deafness, cochlear implants can be the only way to develop speech on time. Over the last two decades, the Academy’s specialists have restored hearing, and, with it, confidence to hundreds of people. While technology advances, each surgery remains a quiet victory over silence, the Military Medical Academy said.
