Around 160 members of historical reenactment clubs from Czechia, Romania, Serbia and Bulgaria, along with independent reenactors and craftsmen of ancient trades will participate in the International Historical Festival Valour and Glory. The event is set to take place near the Shumen Fortress from September 27 to 29, Shumen Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture Viktoriya Kovchazova, municipal administrator Ivaylo Tsanev and member of the National Society Tradition in Shumen Stefan Stefanov said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The festival commemorates 580 years since the fortress was captured by the crusader army led by King Wladysław III of Poland, also known as Ladislaus of Varna. The event will culminate on September 28, when visitors will be able to spectate a medieval reenactment of the 1444 battle when King Władysław III's forces captured the Shumen Fortress from the Ottomans. About 100 reenactors from various clubs will participate, with members from Czechia, Serbia, and Romania portraying the knights and Ottoman forces.

The festival is set to begin on September 27 near the Shumen Fortress, with medieval craft demonstrations, a parade on Shumen's central boulevard, and a performance by the National Society "Tradition." All events are free to attend, as the municipal budget will cover BGN 60,000 of the costs. The festival aims to engage audiences with a three-day historical spectacle featuring international participation.
