A forum on innovative methods and materials for teaching Bulgarian history and geography in Bulgarian schools abroad is being held under the patronage of Vice President Iliana Iotova in the Portuguese capital Lisbon between March 14 and 16, the press secretariat of the presidential institution said.

Iotova will open the forum, which brings together participants from 15 countries. The event is organized by the Bulgarian Education and Science Ministry, the Portuguese-Bulgarian Association St. St. Cyril and Methodius and the Bulgarian Sunday School in Lisbon, in partnership with the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad, Plovdiv University and the University of Lisbon. The forum will discuss how teachers and students abroad build the image of Bulgaria with lessons in Bulgarian language, history and geography.

During her visit to Lisbon, Iotova is scheduled to meet with the Rector of the University of Lisbon, Luís Ferreira, and with Hermenegildo Fernandes, Dean of the Faculty of Philology. The university has lectures in Bulgarian language and literature. The Vice President will visit the Bulgarian Sunday School St. St. Cyril and Methodius, which has 73 students.

The event will be devoted to the problems of studying Bulgarian history and geography in Bulgarian Sunday schools around the world, the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad told BTA.
