The Tsarevo Regional Court Monday decided to keep in custody a Bulgarian charged with helping nine Afghans and a Moroccan to stay in Bulgaria illegally.

On January 14, the Bulgarian was found to be hiding the foreigners in a property in the southeastern town of Ahtopol (on the Black Sea) since earlier in the month. Police officers arrested the man at an address in Gorna Oryahovitsa, in the country's interior, after he tried to escape justice.

An investigation is underway, as the police are trying to identify others complicit in the crime. The court ruling is appealable to the Burgas District Court.
