The Bulgarian stand at the London Book Fair 2024 was opened on Tuesday by outgoing Deputy Culture Minister Amelia Gesheva, the Culture Ministry reported.

"Today we are launching a sustainable tradition and Bulgaria will be present in London from now on," said Gesheva during the opening.

The presentation of Bulgarian literature in London began with a conversation with the winners of the international Booker Prize - writer Georgi Gospodinov and translator Angela Rodel. "For me, as a translator, perhaps the best thing that happened to us after receiving the award was putting Bulgarian literature in the spotlight and now people see that Bulgaria 'produces' world-class literature and are eager for more," said Rodel, quoted by the Culture Ministry. According to Georgi Gospodinov, "three days of incessant joy" represented the reactions in Bulgaria on the occasion of the awarding of the international Booker Prize to Time Shelter.  Later this evening, the English edition of Vera Mutafchieva's book The Case of Cem will be presented at the London Book Fair, the Ministry said.

"We are delighted to be able to share the achievements of Bulgarian publishing with the global community of publishers, readers, translators and writers. We express our gratitude to the Bulgarian Cultural Institute London and its director Svetla Dionisieva, as well as to the Ministry of Culture for making possible this Bulgarian debut on the London literary scene," said Desislava Alexieva, chairwoman of the board of the Bulgarian Book Association, quoted by the organization on the occasion of the opening of the Bulgarian stand at the London Book Fair.
