"Prominent Bulgarian Czechs" is the theme of a poster design competition organized by the Czech Centre in Sofia. The initiative is on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the centre in Sofia and the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague.

The organizers said that the project will be carried out in 2024 and the best posters will be presented in digital and/or print version at exhibitions in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. The competition is open to graphic designers, artists, artists, students and high school students from art schools in Bulgaria.

The theme "Prominent Bulgarian Czechs" applies to Czech personalities who contributed to the building of the Bulgarian state in the late 19th and early 20th century, but also Czechs who today actively contribute to the development of economic and commercial, cultural diplomacy. A selection of names has been attached to this document," the Czech Centre says.

The Czech Centre in Sofia is the oldest Czech institution of its kind abroad. Its history began in 1949, when under intergovernmental Czechoslovak-Bulgarian cultural agreement (1947) and on the basis of a protocol (1948) on May 5 1949, an art and craft shop "Československá tvorba Orbis", was opened at 100 Rakovski Street in Sofia, and "Bulharská tvorba" in Prague. After the division of Czechoslovakia into two independent states - the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic (from January 1993) - the Czech Republic established Czech Centres, which became the successor of the former Czechoslovak Centres abroad.
