With the ninth summer festival "Opera of the Peaks: Belogradchik Rocks" the Sofia Opera will mark the 100t death anniversary of Giacomo Puccini . Three of the operas on the programme of the festival are by Puccini, said opera director Plamen Kartaloff.
The festival opens on August 2 with a production of "Tosca", followed by "Madama Butterfly" and "Turandot". On August 9, 10 and 11 opera aficionados will be able to see the premiere of "Medea" by Luigi Cherubini. The festival will close with the musical "Mamma Mia!" by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus on three successive nights - August 16,17 and 18.
"The Opera of the Peaks" festival was launched nine years ago. Since then the festival has become a cultural tradition anticipated in the whole of Northwestern Bulgaria. It attracts opera lovers from all over the world, added Kartaloff.
