Yuri Yanko, Director General of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Society and Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra, will visit the Sofia Philharmonic on March 14 to present two masterpieces by Dmitri Shostakovich - Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra No.1, and Symphony No.8 - a musical description of the horror of war. The soloists for the evening are Opus Classik winner Selina Ott and International Franz Liszt Piano Competition first prize winner Alexander Ullman.

Yuriy Yanko is General Director of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Society, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra, and an Honored Artist of Ukraine. He has been awarded first prize at the Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition.

Since 2001 Yuri Yanko has been Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2004 he was appointed General Director of the Kharkiv Philharmonic Society, which includes several different musical ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra.

Selina Ott is the winner of the prestigious Opus Klassik 2021 award for her debut album Trumpet Concertos, recorded with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Roberto Paternostro. She has performed with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev, the Budapest Festival Orchestra with Ivan Fischer, at the Sommernachtsgala (Summer Nights Gala Concerts) festival in Grafeneg with the Tonkünstler Orchestra and conductor Yutaka Sado, among others.

British pianist Alexander Ullmann, acclaimed for his exquisite interpretations and fine technique, has impressed audiences and critics around the world with his deep understanding of the compositions.

Alexander Ullman has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (known formerly as Budapest Symphony Orchestra) and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, and with the New Jersey Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Giancarlo Guerrero, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Valentin Uryupin and Cristian Macelaru.
