Innovative global practices in the fight against corruption and Bulgaria's preparations for joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) were among the topics discussed by Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) President Dimitar Glavchev at the 2025 OECD Global Anti-Corruption & Integrity Forum, the BNAO said on Thursday.

The two-day forum, which was opened by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann on Wednesday, gathered leaders from across the globe, along with representatives from the World Bank, the European Commission, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, supreme audit institutions, NGOs, and major companies.

The forum serves as an annual platform for sharing experiences and ideas aimed at strengthening integrity and improving anti-corruption policies, thus enhancing the resilience of democratic societies.

On the first day, discussions focused on galvanizing the private sector for integrity, innovative approaches to combat foreign solicitation, harnessing cutting-edge technologies and collaboration for a holistic fight against corruption, addressing de-risking and illicit financial flows to unlock sustainable development financing.

The BNAO is making concerted efforts to promote integrity and prevent corruption, according to the press release.

As a member of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), the BNAO participates in its Working Group on the Fight Against Corruption and Money Laundering, as well as the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions Task Force on Audit and Ethics. The BNAO also has experience with the implementation of the IntoSAINT integrity self-assessment tool.

Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD is one of this country's top foreign policy priorities. Following a meeting with Secretary General Cormann in May 2024, Glavchev said that Bulgaria has a specific deadline for joining the OECD for the first time, adding that the horizon for the country’s accession is the end of 2025.

The Bulgarian delegation, led by Dimitar Glavchev, also includes Dileta Kasabova – Tokatliyan, head of the BNAO Performance Audit Directorate, and Valeri Yordanov, head of the Fight Against Corruption, Bribery, and Money Laundering Unit.
