The newly elected Constitutional Court judge from the National Assembly quota, Orlin Kolev, was sworn in on Thursday. The official ceremony was held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Court in Sofia.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairperson of the National Assembly Nataliya Kiselova, President Rumen Radev, Supreme Court of Cassation President Galina Zaharova, and the acting President of the Supreme Administrative Court Georgi Cholakov.
On March 20, parliament elected Kolev as a judge of the Constitutional Court from the National Assembly quota with 127 votes in favour, 104 against, and two abstentions. Kolev is taking the place of Konstantin Penchev.
Kolev was nominated by GERB-UDF, while Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria's (CC-DB) nomination was Yonko Grozev.
Kolev received support for the post from MPs from GERB-UDF, BSP - United Left and There Is Such a People, and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning.
On March 26, Parliament dismissed Kolev as member of the Commission in connection with a petition he filed regarding his election as Constitutional Court judge.
Kolev is a university lecturer in constitutional law with over 18 years of experience and a member of the Commission for Protection from Discrimination, according to his biography published on the parliament's website.
