During the ceremony presenting the annual report of the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate Border Police on Thursday, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov thanked the directorate’s staff for their "outstanding work" in 2024.

"Our task now is to maintain this level and demonstrate that through effort and capability, we have earned Schengen. I also want to thank all our partner countries—protecting our borders requires joint European efforts. We will continue to insist on maintaining foreign border guard contingents and increasing FRONTEX’s presence. The leadership of the Interior Ministry and the government will make every effort not only to ensure that you are well-paid but also that you are provided with the necessary technical and technological equipment to facilitate your important work," Mitov said at the event.

Anton Zlatanov, head of the Border Police General Directorate, presented the Directorate’s report to the leadership of the Interior Ministry, the National Revenue Agency, and the Customs Agency. According to him, 2024 has been the most successful year for Bulgaria’s border police.

Thanks to the measures implemented by the General Directorate Border Police, migration pressure has decreased by 70% compared to the same period in 2023. As a result of all efforts aimed at ensuring border security, migration pressure reached its lowest levels in the past three years in December, Zlatanov noted.
