In recent months, there have been communication problems with Ukraine,  Ivaylo Mirchev MP of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and ranking member of the Yes, Bulgaria Party said here on Tuesday. He was among the speakers at a public discussion titled "Democracy Shield against Russian Disinformation: Economic and Information (In)security", organized by the Center for the Study of Democracy.

Mirchev said he was not at liberty "to discuss everything" but noted that there are very serious problems with the interaction with Ukraine, which he said was part of the lie-low approach of the Bulgarian political elite.

He stressed that the last hours have been decisive for Bulgaria and Europe. In Bulgaria, he noted, many politicians have "buried their heads in the sand" and "do not dare to speak out" about ongoing developments in the US and Europe. He further asserted that most institutions in the country remain "under the influence of specific individuals".

“When those on whom the majority in Parliament depends withdraw from responsibility, whether it is about the country's energy independence or disinformation, we have a problem,” Mirchev also said.

Earlier, Democratic Bulgaria circulated a declaration on guaranteeing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and strengthening the defence and security of Bulgaria and Europe.
