Bulgaria hasn’t been asked to send troops, GERB leader Boyko Borissov told journalists in Parliament in connection with the adoption of a declaration for non-participation of Bulgarian forces in military action in Ukraine.

According to Borissov, this is done to reassure the people.

Borissov said that GERB firmly supports Ukraine, which he has stated to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and prime ministers from the European People's Party.

“Of course we have always talked about peace. Of course, we have talked about the bloodshed, and here I support President Trump, who wants to stop the killing of people - Russians and Ukrainians, civilians, and this must happen,” Borissov said.

“Europe is the main victim of this war, with the people who have been massacred, the economic sanctions, the galloping inflation, the more expensive fuels make the European economy uncompetitive, and the fact that sanctions are expected or raising tariffs again on the territory of Europe is not good for us,” said Boyko Borissov.

“I really hope the political class in Bulgaria this time to be Bulgarians, to look after our national interest, to work with Europe and America, because without them neither NATO nor our European family can exist,” Borissov further said.

There will be peace, but it depends on how it will be concluded for Europe, the GERB leader added. He feared a new migration wave to Europe. “Imagine a 300,000 Ukrainian army, soldiers who have been fighting for years, suddenly going back to a country and economy in ruin. Millions of Ukrainians have already moved out, and this army, which has been in the trenches for three years, will expect benefits and will march towards Europe if there is no lasting peace,” Borissov explained. According to him, this should also be on the agenda of the Bulgarian services and the public.

“That is why Europe should be at the negotiating table to defend all this,” Borissov said.
