Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Ivanov met with the Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, Yordanka Chobanova on Thursday and the two discussed cooperation between the EC and the ministry.
As part of the meeting, current programmes with EU funding were discussed, and also measures taken by Ivanov and his team to catch up with the significant backlog in some of them. "We are working in emergency mode on some programmes because the political instability in recent years contributed to this," Ivanov explained. He raised the topic of searching for opportunities to ease some of the procedures and criteria, while at the same time seeking a balance so that European and national interests are protected.
For her part, Chobanova highly appreciated the communication and cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works team.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Ministers Veselina Terziyska and Yura Vitanova, as well as the political advisor to the EC Leda Shiyakova.
