site.btaForeign Ministry Issues Position against Holding of Neo-Nazi Lukov March in Sofia

The Foreign Ministry issued a position against the planned holding of the so-called Lukov March and called for all lawful actions to be taken to prevent it this year as well. 

Lukov March is a torchlit procession which has been taking place annually in February since 2003 to mark the anniversary of General Hristo Lukov's execution-style murder by two Communist militants in his home in Sofia's Trakia Street. Lukov (1888-1943) was a popular military commander but was also known for his close links to the Third Reich and his activity as leader of the far-right Union of Bulgarian National Legions.

“Bulgaria, even less its capital, cannot be a place for the manifestation of extremism, intolerance, discrimination and hatred. Such manifestations are incompatible with the values ​​and traditions of the Bulgarian people and purposefully divert attention from the achievements and positive agenda of Bulgarian society,” the Foreign Ministry said on its website.

As part of the coordinated efforts of Bulgarian institutions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to counteract any attempt to instill division and tension in Bulgarian society, as well as to damage Bulgaria’s international image, the Ministry added

In 2024, the Foreign Ministry again adamantly opposed the planned holding of Lukov march.
