MRF – New Beginning’s MPs will table a motion on Thursday for the creation of an ad hoc committee to look into the operations of George and Alexander Soros in Bulgaria and their foundations that finance Bulgarian natural and legal entities and NGOs. The committee would also investigate their ties to political parties, magistrates, educational institutions, the media, business structures, and state authorities, the coalition’s press centre said on Thursday.
The motion, signed by MRF-New Beginning floor leader Delyan Peevski and all MPs in the parliamentary group, calls on Parliament to examine “the network of individuals and structures surrounding the main Soros foundation, Open Society Institute, which has been operating since 1990”.
The sponsors of the motion argue that over the past decades, these individuals have infiltrated not just the NGO sector but also the public administration, educational institutions, political parties, the judiciary, the media, and businesses, creating conditions for covert or overt influence on the country’s main socio-political and economic processes.
The reasoning states that this network threatens the rule of law in this country, as its operations serve private interests, being financed and coordinated by George and Alexander Soros and their foundations. This undermines the basic principles of democracy and the foundations of the State, the sponsors said, adding that maintaining a grip on the power structures, the political and social system in the country, in favour of one person ultimately leads to a dictatorship.
The MRF-New Beginnings Parliamentary Group insists that after the committee concludes its work, appropriate measures should be taken to remove this influence and prevent any future interference in Bulgaria’s national interests and the security of its people.
