Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil has cabled condolences on the occasion of the death of the Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all Albania Anastasios to Metropolitan John of Korca – locum tenens of the Albanian Orthodox Church and through him to its Holy Synod, according to the website of the Bulgarian Patriarchate.

"With diligence and tireless labors he raised up and renewed your local Church, showing himself to be a divinely inspired helmsman and its caring father. His legacy as a brilliant ecclesiastic and indefatigable archpriest of the great Shepherd Christ will remain indelible not only for the Albanian Orthodox Church, but for all Orthodoxy,” said Patriarch Daniil in his message.

The Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all Albania Anastasios (Anastas Yanulatos) died on 25 January in Athens at the age of 95 after a long illness, local media reported. Archbishop Anastasios was born in Piraeus, Greece, on November 4, 1929.

In 1992, he was elected head of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania and became archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all of Albania. Archbishop Anastasios led the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania for more than 30 years and was internationally known for his outstanding contribution to its revival.
