The average monthly temperatures in December 2024 were between 2C and 8C, which is a deviation from the norm by minus 1C to 4C. The last month of 2024 was yet another warm one since 2019 and also had the highest precipitation for December since 2015, show data of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The highest temperature this month - 21.2C - was registered in Vidin (on the Danube) on December 17, while the lowest in a settlement - minus 12.5C - was recorded in Samokov (Western Bulgaria) on December 29. The lowest temperature recorded on a mountain peak was minus 16.1C at Musala on December 16. In the capital, the highest temperature was 12.7C on December 17 and the lowest, minus 4.8C on December 23.
The monthly amounts of rainfall were close to or above the norm: between 115% and 440% of the norm, the Institute said. The highest precipitation was recorded in Central Bulgaria. The greatest rainfall in 24 hours - 93 mm - was registered in the village of Kosti, Burgas Municipality (on the Black Sea coast). In Sofia, the monthly precipitation was 77 mm, or 185% of the norm, and the greatest snowfall in 24 hours was 8 mm on December 1.
