Movement for Rights and Freedoms chair Delyan Peevski Monday slammed the appointment of journalist Kadrinka Kadrinova to the Council for Electronic Media (CEM) earlier the same day by President Rumen Radev. "President Radev's decision to appoint to the Council for Electronic Media a journalist with years-old affiliation to the Russian regime and its interests, with a penchant for glorifying bright communist greats and ideals of the Comintern around the world, is yet another blatant provocation to the freedom of speech and media, to the basic democratic principles and values and to Bulgaria's Euro-Atlantic belonging," Peevski said, quoted by the MRF press office.

According to him, President Radev's decision "sends a very worrying message to Europe, which calls for independence of the media regulators". "Increasingly, Radev is putting to the test the trust of Bulgarian citizens that the State, and in particular the regulators in which he has quotas, will work for the interests of society," the statement goes.

Peevski adds that with this act "Radev blatantly manifests his vassal dependence on Moscow and once again proves that for him power is an end in itself and a way to cater to foreign interests".
