Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) chair Dzhevdet Chakarov told the media on Monday that his party is registering in the October 27 snap general elections in coalition with two other parties - Just Bulgaria United Patriots (SBOR) and the Bulgarian Agrarian National Union. The coalition will run in the elections with the name Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DRF), in Bulgarian the abbreviation does not change letters.
He addressed the supporters, members of the MRF and all Bulgarians, announcing that their orientation, as before, will be Euro-Atlantic - "for the European future of Bulgaria with meaningful and effective policies for a better life in Bulgaria".
"There is one MRF, it is under the leadership of [honorary chair Ahmed] Dogan," Dzhevdet Chakarov said.
Regarding the registration for the elections, he noted that his MRF wing came first in the morning in front of the Central Election Commission (CEC). "Unfortunately, there was pressure again and Peevski's group put up serious resistance and impeded the work of the CEC representatives," Chakarov said.
Responding to a journalist's question about the division in the MRF, Dzhevdet Chakarov said that democracy and democratic values must win. Asked how voters will differentiate between the two identical abbreviations, Chakarov stressed that voters should not be underestimated, adding that those who have backed them so far will support the Movement for Rights and Freedom and their coalition too.
Earlier on Monday, the CEC decided to accept parallel applications for participation in the elections from supporters of the MRF wing close to Dogan and the one close to floor leader Delyan Peevski.
