Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has established a task force to combat the wildfires, the Council of Ministers press service said on Tuesday. The task force's primary objective is to enhance fire response coordination among stakeholders. It will include representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Defence, and Agriculture.

Glavchev visited Stara Zagora, one of the regions most impacted by the forest fires. He asked the public to remain calm and said timely measures are being implemented to address the situation.

He highlighted ongoing coordination with the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Defence and the Director of the Fire Brigade. He also praised the efforts of personnel combating the fire on the ground.

"Yesterday, I communicated with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, leading to the directors of our fire services coordinating efforts regarding the fires in Petrich and Strumica", Glavchev added.

He said he will maintain continuous communication with local authorities in the areas affected by fire, guaranteeing preparedness to provide additional support via the Interdepartmental Commission for Reconstruction and Support.

Glavchev urged citizens to exercise caution amid high temperatures, because even slight carelessness can easily lead to fires.

Earlier today the European Commission confirmed Bulgaria will receive EU assistance to combat forest fires.
