site.btaUPDATED Emergency Medical Service Centres Receive Five All-terrain Ambulances
Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov on Friday handed the keys to five all-terrain ambulances to the heads of the Emergency Medical Service Centres in Sofia, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad, Shumen and Smolyan.
The ambulances are the first of 42 provided under a project titled Support for the Development of the Emergency Medical Care System funded under Operational Programme Regions in Growth.
“This is yet another example of why it is useful for people to be members of the EU and so, as we have to fulfil our obligations, we can also enjoy the rights that this presence on the European map gives us,” said Prime Minister Denkov. These ambulances are high-capacity, they will be used precisely in places where people often have the most difficulty getting direct and quick access to medical care. He said the helicopters, which are planned for Bulgaria, will be directed to places where there are difficulties and the fastest response is needed.
“This is the last component of the European investment project to support and modernise emergency care, and it is due to be completed next year,” Deputy Health Minister Ilko Getov said, adding that a few days ago the government allocated nearly BGN 45 million for the completion of the project, which envisaged repairs of emergency centres and branches, equipment for them, as well as the procurement of 400 ambulances.
