Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has scheduled a meeting to discuss the reorganization of Bulgaria’s border crossings with Romania and Greece after this country's potential full accession to the Schengen area. The decision on this is expected to be made during a meeting of the EU’s Home Affairs Council in Brussels on December 12, the Government Information Service said on Tuesday.
The meeting will be held after a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday and will be attended by caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, Health Minister Galya Kondeva, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Violeta Koritarova, the Director of the Border Police Directorate General, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, representatives of the Regional Health Inspectorates, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, the National Revenue Agency, and the National Customs Agency.
The officials are to visit the Danube Bridge border checkpoints near Vidin and Ruse in the context of the scheduled reorganization activities. Glavchev’s visits will underline the Government's commitment to ensure smooth cargo and passenger traffic flow following Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen by land, the press release said.
