In a world where digitalization is becoming the backbone of nearly every aspect of life, the issue of cybersecurity is not just relevant, it's essential, caretaker e-Government Minister Valentin Mundrov said here Tuesday, as quoted by his Ministry. Mundrov was speaking at the opening of the ITU Cybersecurity Forum and CyberDrill for Europe and the Mediterranean, held in Sofia.

“The world we live in today is a world of artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing, and other advanced technologies. But it is also a world where trust in these technologies is being put to the test. Cybersecurity is not an isolated issue, it is integrated into our society,” the Minister said.

According to Mundrov, the necessary resources to build a national cybersecurity framework in any country are huge. These are investments in people, processes, and technological solutions, which are crucial because they enable governments, businesses, and societies to leverage technology, work efficiently, and provide and receive services in an environment with a limited risk of cyberattacks, he added.

The four-day ITU Cybersecurity Forum and CyberDrill for Europe and the Mediterranean is organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Electronic Government of Bulgaria. The event is taking place from November 26 to 29, 2024, in Sofia.

This forum brings together experts and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the pressing issues of cybersecurity and share best practices for tackling cyber threats in an increasingly interconnected world.
