Shortly after Klaus Iohannis announced that he is resigning from the post of President of Romania on February 10, a 1,500-page review of his two terms in office was published on the presidency website.
The document has been split into two parts. The first half is dedicated to Iohannis's first term as president from 2014 to 2019 and covers topics such as defence and security, foreign policy, European affairs, the rule of law, the values of the market economy, healthcare. The last chapter entitled "Towards a Normal Romania" reads that a normal Romania would be a country, which functions to serve the people. Achieving this was Iohannis's goal for his second term, from 2019 to 2024.
Among the topics covered in the second half are defence, foreign policy, European affairs, legislative framework, civil society, education, economy, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate and sustainability, culture.
After serving for 10 years as Romania's head of State, Iohannis stepped down on Wednesday, making him the first Romanian president to resign, and Ilie Bolojan took over as the acting president. The resignation came after several far-right parliamentary parties took the initiative to impeach him. Iohannis' second term expired on December 21, 2024, but was extended due to the annulment of the presidential elections by the Constitutional Court.
