Customs Agency officers seized 4.6 kilogrammes of cocaine during an inspection of a truck and its driver in the area of the Ruse border crossing, the Customs Agency said on Friday.

On the evening of October 30, 2024, customs officers from the Department for Combating Drug Trafficking in Ruse Customs Department stopped for inspection a truck driven by a Turkish citizen and travelling from the Netherlands to Turkiye via the Danube Bridge - Ruse. During the inspection of the truck and the driver, the customs officer on duty noticed an unusual bulge around the driver's waist. On personal examination, two packets of a white powdery substance were found wrapped with tape around the man's body. Upon further inspection, two more identical packages were found in the cab of the truck. The total amount seized was 4.6 kilogrammes of a narcotic substance, which reacted to cocaine in a field drug test.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Ruse Regional Prosecution Office.

On October 29, customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing detected 3.43 kilogrammes of cocaine worth BGN 1,078,392 during an inspection of a truck leaving the country.
