Cocaine worth BGN 1,078,392 was found by Customs Agency officers from the Anti-Narcotics Department at the Kapitan Andreevo Municipal Police Station during an inspection of a truck leaving the country, the Customs Agency said in a press release on Thursday.
On October 29, 2024, a truck and semi-trailer with Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presented regular documents for the transported groupage goods from Germany via Bulgaria to Turkiye. The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs check using the risk analysis method. In the course of the controls, three packages containing a white powdery substance were found in a hard-to-reach factory cavity in the driver's cab. The substance reacted to cocaine in a field drug test. The total gross weight of the drug found was 3.430 kg, valued at BGN 1,078,392.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo Regional Prosecution Office.
The driver of the truck with initials U.K., 36, was detained for up to 72 hours. The Regional Prosecution Office of Haskovo is about to submit a request to the court for a detention order for U.K.
